Several studies in patients with asthma have confirmed that Bambec 20 mg, administered once daily in the evening, improves pulmonary function for a 24-hour period.

Increases in PEF following Bambec are sustained over a 24-hour period

The onset of effect was more rapid and the peak effect on PEF more sustained with Bambec 20 mg than Bambec 10 mg.
Adapted from Persson et al., 1995.

Bambec given once daily in the evening significantly improved evening PEF over the treatment period

Bambec tablets were administered once daily in the evening for 4 weeks. PEF was measured daily immediately before the dose of Bambec was given.
Adapted from Persson et al., 1995.

Bambec 10 mg or 20 mg daily, given to asthmatic patients in the evening, induced bronchodilation lasting for the 24-hour period between doses. Mean PEF + SD (area under the curve) increased by 28 + 35 L/min with Bambec 20 mg (p < 0.02), by 10 + 27 L/min with Bambec 10 mg, and by –6 + 37 L/min with placebo, compared with a reference period.

Evening administration of Bambec 20 mg results in higher plasma terbutaline concentrations at night, when asthma symptoms are at their worst. This dosing regimen is therefore preferable, particularly in patients with nocturnal asthma.

Plasma concentrations of terbutaline are maintained over the full 24-hour period following Bambec 20 mg once daily

Repeated administration of Bambec 20 mg once daily produces a smooth terbutaline plasma concentration–time profile and confirms the suitability of a once-daily dose.

Plasma terbutaline concentrations are maintained following Bambec 20 mg, once daily

Mean (± SEM) plasma concentrations of bambuterol and terbutaline after administration of Bambec 20 mg once daily for 10 days to 18 healthy adults. The data demonstrate the smooth plasma concentration versus time profile of terbutaline that is achieved by administering Bambec; the data also confirm the suitability of a once-daily regimen.
