When used regularly in combination with an inhaled steroid, Oxis improves asthma control (reference 2,3), and reduces the risk of mild and severe exacerbations of asthma (reference 3).
The effects of adding Oxis Turbuhaler to both a lower and higher dose of inhaled steroid were studied over 1 year in 852 patients in the FACET study. (reference 3) The addition of Oxis Turbuhaler (9 µg b.i.d.) to budesonide Turbuhaler (Pulmicort) had several clinically beneficial effects, including improvement in lung function, significant reduction in the number of mild and severe asthma exacerbations (see figures below), decrease in the use of rescue medication and improved quality of life (reference 3, 31).
Moreover a health economic analysis demonstrated that the addition of Oxis Turbuhaler, to both a lower and a higher dose of budesonide Turbuhaler (Pulmicort), is cost-saving from a societal perspective. (reference 32)

Oxis improves long term lung function. Both groups who received Oxis in addition to budesonide Turbuhaler (Pulmicort) had significantly higher FEV1 (as a percentage of the predicted value) compared to the two groups receiving budesonide Turbuhaler (Pulmicort) alone (reference 3).

Addition of Oxis significantly reduces the rate of severe exacerbations. The FACET study showed that regular twice daily use of Oxis Turbuhaler® 9 µg - in addition to budesonide Turbuhaler (Pulmicort) , significantly reduced the rate of severe exacerbations.(reference 3)

Addition of Oxis significantly reduces the rate of mild exacerbations. The FACET study showed that regular twice daily use of Oxis Turbuhaler® 9 µg - in addition to budesonide Turbuhaler (Pulmicort) , significantly reduced the rate of mild exacerbations.(reference 3) |
