1.  Is the onset of action of Oxis as fast as that of salbutamol and terbutaline?

2.  Is Oxis faster to act than salmeterol?

1. Is the onset of action of Oxis as fast as that of salbutamol and terbutaline?

Yes. Oxis provides effective bronchodilatation within 3 minutes.(reference 5, 6) In a direct comparison, the onset of action of Oxis was as rapid as that of salbutamol (see figure below).(reference 7) Patients notice the fast effect of formoterol in the same way as they notice the effects of short-acting inhaled ß2 -agonists.(reference 7)

Rapid onset of action of Oxis in asthma.
Mean FEV1 (% over baseline) in the first 30 minutes after the inhalation of single doses from Oxis Turbuhaler (shown as delivered doses), salbutamol pressurised metered dose inhaler (pMDI) or placebo. The onset of action of Oxis Turbuhaler was as rapid as that of salbutamol pMDI. (Reference 7)

2. Is Oxis faster to act than salmeterol?

Yes. The onset of action of Oxis is significantly faster than that of salmeterol (see figure below). (References 4, 8, 9)

Rapid onset of action of Oxis Turbuhaler® in asthma.
Mean FEV1(% over baseline) in the first hour after the inhalation of single doses from Oxis Turbuhaler® (shown as delivered doses), salmeterol Diskhaler® or placebo. At all doses, Oxis Turbuhaler had a more rapid onset of effect than salmeterol.(reference 8)
