Safety

Will use of Symbicort® as a reliever increase the patient’s drug load?
On 56%of days no reliever therapy is needed with Symbicort SMART. In several studies, using the Symbicort SMART approach the mean overall drug load was reduced compared to alternative treatment approaches (Kuna et al 2007; Vogelmeier et al 2005; Rabe et al 2006b; Scicchitano et al 2004).

Is long-term treatment with Symbicort® well tolerated?
Symbicort has an excellent safety profile. Several large, long-term studies have shown that Symbicort is well-tolerated in the long-term maintenance treatment of asthma in patients aged 6 years and above, at a wide range of doses (Ställberg et al 2003, Rosenhall et al 2003a, Tal et al 2002,Jenkins et al 2006).

What about long-term safety with Symbicort SMART®?
Studies in over 14,000 patients have confirmed that Symbicort SMART is as well tolerated as fixed dosing with either an inhaled corticosteroid alone or an inhaled corticosteroid/long-acting b2-agonist (LABA) combination + SABA.
