Symbicort
provides sustained relief from the symptoms of COPD. Szafranski et
al showed that Symbicort significantly reduced all symptom scores
(total symptom score, night-time awakenings, shortness of breath,
cough, and chest tightness) within the first week of treatment versus
budesonide alone, formoterol alone and placebo. This effect was
sustained for 12 months for Symbicort versus placebo and budesonide
alone. Symbicort was superior to formoterol alone in terms of
night-time awakenings throughout the treatment period.
Symbicort also reduces exacerbations.
